Working Party on Digital Economics, Measurement and Analysis (WPDEMA):  Workshop on Measuring Child Well-being in Digital Environments.  November 6, 2025

"Deep dive into how children interact in digital environments"

This session examines opportunities and risks of digital environments for children. In particular, the role of child agency in digital peer-to-peer interaction will be discussed, including as it contributes to “playful” learning. This session will offer practical insights into how autonomy, creativity, and competence – essential to child well-being – are cultivated in digital environments.

Key questions for discussion include:

  • How do children interact with each other and society in the digital age?
  • What are ways to tackle identified risks and ensure opportunities are seized for children in digital environments?

Speakers:

Dr. Sara Grimes (Specialist in children’s play, digital games and media literacy, McGill University, Kids Play Tech Lab)

Dr. Fiona Scott (Child development researcher, University of Sheffield)

Ms. Billie Constantinu (Webwise Youth Panelist and European BIK Youth Advisory Member)

Prof. Mimi Ito (Director of the Connected Learning Lab, University of California, Irvine)
